Great little bass! -
I've played guitar since I was 12 (a LONG time ago) and wanted to try playing bass. I bought this guitar last year and have made such excellent progress with it that I now play in a trio (folky-pop.) I'm short with small hands so the short scale is just right for me. With some set up and a new set of strings, this bass can compete with many others that were much more expensive. The finish and hardware were great. The only problem I've had is a little crackle from the volume knob when I adjust it while playing. But a little cleaning seemed to take care of that. I would recommend this to anyone just starting out.

I bought this bass as a Christmas present for my Finace' (she said she wanted to learn). However, she is only 4'11 so I had to find one that was small enough for her...this bass is perfect. She hasn't played it all that much but I find myself using it ALL THE TIME! I do a lot of recording and it has been just wonderful. I'm 6' and I think it's just right. It stays in tune and sounds great on the recordings. I wouldn't pay a dime more for a Fender or anything else for a bass...and I am picky about my guitars. I have a 68 tele, a custom Washburn and a Gibson Jumbo 12 string....this bass is a nice addition to my collection even if it isn't a famous name. BUY THIS BASS -you won't be sorry.
Outstanding hundred-dollar guitar! -
This bass was purchased for my wife to learn on with the intent to buy a "better" bass as her skills improved. Now we're thinking there'll be no need for another bass any time soon- not because she's progressing slowly, but because this guitar is extremely easy to handle and has great tone. It required no set-up whatsoever upon arrival, the size is perfect for a person with "smaller scale" hands, and it's not so heavy that it would make a beginner's shoulder sore from wearing it for any length of time. I think the dual pickups have a lot to do with the sound quality- you can individually adjust the volume of each one to get a wide range of tones, from bright funky tones off the bridge pickup to soft, thick sounds out of the body pickup and just about anything in between. The string action is very playable, and one has to really thump the strings to get any fret buzz. Noise from the pickups is minimal and not an issue for us. Shipping and delivery time on this order was amazing! Ordered December 16, we were advised not to expect delivery before Christmas, but UPS delivered on the 22nd- Merry Christmas indeed!
unbeatable for the price -
I have small hands and prefer the short-scale bass guitar. I was looking for an inexpensive secondary bass that I could just mess around with. I have always wished I could have a short-scale version of the Jazz bass, and was amazed to find this very thing on Amazon for just over $100. I ordered it and was very skeptical of what it would look and perform like. I am proud to say that this is a steal for the price. I must also comment that Rondo music did a great job of packaging and shipping the bass, double boxing it and including foam and plastic covers and reinforcement.
The finish on mine is a very pretty lake placid blue without any cracks or mars on it. It is also available in sunburst. The body is lightweight--not heavy and shoulder -killing like the old Jazz basses. It has a decent bridge for the price, although eventually I might replace it. The pickups sound are superior for the price, although the first thing I plan to do is drop in some Fralins or vintage Fenders.They have the usual amount of buzz you find in this price range.
Right out of the box, the tuners seemed good for the price range. I did not notice any stripping of gears or undue movement. The bass tuned easily and seemed to be fairly well intonated for an inexpensive mail order bass. The neck is 30 inches in scale. It has a nice rosewood fingerboard that did not have rough spots on it or loose frets that I could find. It is slightly fatter than a full-size Jazz neck, more like the Mustang's neck in feel, but is extremely fast and comfortable. Reaching the notes in first position is no problem.
I think I will also order the short scale Precision bass that SX offers. The value for the price rates this a 5. Beginners or those looking for a secondary bass cannot go wrong!!
