Average Customer Ratings:

Introduced in 1954 as one of Gretsch's "Guitars of the Future," the White Falcon was an overwhelmingly impressive instrument. The influence of this spectacular new guitar spread to other models and guitar manufacturers. It was the dawn of a half a century of awe-inspiring guitars. This book compiles the best of Gretsch's inventions over the past 50 years and tells the stories of their creation and the people behind them, including artists Pete Townshend, Tom Petty, Alanis Morissette, Chet Atkins, Elvis Presley, Sheryl Crow, John Frusciante, Jimmy Page, and Bo Diddley.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS:
A nice try -

The problem with Tony Bacon's book is right there in the title: "50 years of Gretsch Electrics" There really isn't enough room in this book to visually present a large array of the models produced by the Gretsch company, and give a history of the many changes of the Gretsch company. In fact, Bacon omits any discusion or photos of any Gretsch Bass models. While Bacon does do a decent job of documenting the many changes that the Gretsch company has undergone, it's at the expense of having room for more visual examples of many Gretsch guitars. The book is somewhat confusing in that the photographs on many pages do not correspond with the subject of the text. What dissapointed me the most was the limited selection of photographs. Instead of presenting more photos of guitars, Bacon offers a reference section that merely shows black and white body outlines of different models that corrospond with brief discrpitions of the models that used those bodies. Sound confusing? It is.
In the end, there just isn't enough room to both discuss the history of the Gretsch Company as well as offer an extensive visual presentation of the many Gretsch guitars.

Super book. An easy to read, informative work for anyone wanting to know more about Gretsch guitars and the history of the Gretsch company. Good mix of text and pix with a very helpful identification section towards the end of the book. Especially helpful in trying to identify the many Gretsch models.
